Located in the Vanke Yuhe office park in Shanghai, the Long Table serves as an outdoor lobby, creating a sense of release and freedom for individuals stepping out of the surrounding buildings. With a venue area of 618sqm, the table is made from common terrazzo, combined with stainless steel for practicality and durability. The use of traditional materials and craftsmanship evokes a sense of familiarity and warmth.
One of the standout features of the Long Table is its adjustable height, ranging from 1100mm to 4000mm. This allows individuals to find a comfortable position whether they choose to sit or stand. The width of the table, measuring 360mm, is perfectly suited for placing a laptop, making it an ideal workspace. The gently winding design of the table creates a visually appealing aesthetic, while also providing a unique co-working experience in an outdoor setting.
Surrounded by trees, the Long Table seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. The greenery not only adds to the beauty of the space but also serves as a sunshade and a gathering area for people. This innovative design truly blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering a refreshing and inviting environment for individuals to connect and collaborate.
The Long Table project began in July 2015 and was completed in December of the same year. It took an additional three months to build and is now proudly standing in the Vanke Yuhe office building in Shanghai. The design team, consisting of Wei Zhou, Xiwen Xu, Mili Du, and Jun Zhang, successfully overcame the creative and technical challenges to create this outstanding outdoor art setting.
The Long Table design has received recognition for its ingenuity and resourcefulness. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
With its unique blend of art, architecture, and functionality, the Long Table stands as a testament to the power of design to transform spaces and enhance human experiences. It serves as an inspiration for future innovations in outdoor furniture, encouraging individuals to embrace the beauty of nature while enjoying the comforts of modern design.
